Position Summary

• Position Title: Eugene Clean Energy Fund Paid Canvasser

• Wage: $22/hour

• Start Date: Late September

• Duration: The position is part-time and based in Eugene, Oregon. Candidates in Eugene are strongly preferred.  Paid Canvassers will need to travel around the city.

• Location and Travel: Local in Eugene.

• Schedule: 15-35 hours/week.

About the Eugene Clean Energy Fund Initiative

Local climate, health, housing, labor, and social and racial justice organizations* have come together to launch the Eugene Clean Energy Fund (ECEF) Initiative, planned for a vote on the November 2026 ballot. By establishing a business license fee on the gross profits of Eugene’s wealthiest businesses, ECEF would fund programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and household energy burden; expand public-owned renewable energy, transportation, and other green infrastructure; create high-road jobs in the green economy; and build community-wide climate resiliency, especially for Eugene’s frontline and historically marginalized areas.

Field Organizer Job Description

The Eugene Clean Energy Fund (ECEF) is hiring Paid Canvassers for the 2026 election. This is a position for passionate people of any experience level looking to knock doors and support the Eugene Clean Energy Fund ballot measure. Paid Canvassers will be required to walk several miles per shift. The Paid Canvassers will report to the ECEF Field Directors and Field Organizers, with an anticipated start date of late September. 

The Paid Canvassers will help execute the campaign’s coordinated field effort, which is focused on persuading and turning out climate motivated voters to vote yes on Measure 20-388. The Paid Canvassers will collaborate closely with Field Directors and Field Organizers to ensure that all of Eugene’s communities are engaged and empowered in order to be successful this November. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Knock doors assigned by Field Directors and Field Organizers 

• Leave literature at each knocked door

• Record key information in MiniVAN

• Attempt to convert positive door interactions into volunteers and/or taking a lawn sign

• Participate in post-canvass debriefs with Field Director and/or Field Organizers

• Upon request from Field Director or Field Organizers, participate in a Phone Bank 

• Report at weekly check-ins to the Field Directors or Field Organizers

• Additional duties as assigned by the Field Director or Field Organizer

Skills and Qualifications

• Access to reliable transportation 

• Ability to work evenings and weekends

• Strong verbal communication skills; the ability to communicate persuasively in a charged atmosphere 

• Commitment to social and economic justice

Preferred, But Not Required, Qualifications

• At least one cycle of political campaign experience, preferably in field

• Experience working in Eugene’s political landscape

• Fluency in a second language, preferably Spanish, is encouraged

Schedule

The position involves working days, evenings, and weekends as necessary. 

Paid Canvassers will be able set their own schedule and work anywhere from 15-35 hours a week within the confines set by the campaign. Working hours are 2:30 pm - 7:30 pm Monday thru Friday and 10 am - 8 pm Saturday and Sunday.
